Revealing the Beauty of Baguio City

Philippines has comprised of many islands 7, 107 as divided into three areas: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, unite from its unique cultures and traditions. Based on the history, colonized by three regimes: Spanish, Japanese and American. The remnants of the eras were shown evident in different places in the Philippines. One of the uniqueness of communication, every town has its own dialects: Bicolano, Kapampangan, Pangasinense, Ilokano, Ibanag, etc. On top of it all, the national language usage is "Tagalog". Then followed the second language of English.

One of its pride places of the Philippines is the "Summer Capital", Baguio City. I speak it for myself, since I grew up in this peaceful town. I am fond of the past memories in this place. For the past years of staying and leaving my home town, the enormous attachment lingered in my state of being. The beauty revealed without a doubt, people engraved the memories into their heart.

For the sake of reminiscing the past series events of my life, let me join you to have a refreshing adventure in every popular tourist spot in Baguio City. To do this, let me start in Cathedral as the main focal point to walk through this journey. There are four options to travel: the cheapest way is to walk, pennies in a coin purse to ride on a jeepney, a cab with a flag down of Php 35.00 ($0.83) or the most convenient hopping on board in a private / rented vehicles. For my personal prefence, a "combo travel": walking under the heat of the sun and feel the cold breeze of the weather, while sitting on the customized bench of a jeepney.

Cathedral is situated in Happy Glenn Loop, the local people visit every Sundays to attend mass. If I have this ample time, I usually visit  the church for a short mass in the afternoon of weekdays. Even the tourist came to witness the mass of this famous church, offer prayers for their personal intentions. It will not be troublesome for nearby residents here, riding a jeepney with a regular fare of Php 8.50 ($0.20).

After having mass in Cathedral last 26th of September 2012, I decided to walk going to Pink Sisters Convent located in Brent Road. I managed to go straight to Leonard Wood Road.

A Solemn Prayer with Pink Sisters

At long last, I finally reached the Pink Sisters Convent. I just remembered, I was laughing out load and cuddled closely by my father, so clear enough to look back by the other church goers, as he claimed.

I took the time to kneel down and pray, then I set off to my next destination, getting back to the main road. As I continued along the Leonard Wood Road, seeing the "white house" from a near distant.

The Haunted House

For the ghost hunters, here is the best place to hunt. Once had done the hunting with my friends, the night before the Halloween, it was in college days.

Along the Leonard Wood Road going to Teacher's Camp, the "white house" can be seen by the passers-by, like me. I can't imagine to walk-by alone in this area at night having a traditional trick-or-treat, a distinct white -painted house glowing in the dark. That's too spooky! It's been aired and featured a couple of times in local TV programs, the eerie ghost stories in this house.

Rest House for Teachers

Along the way of Leonard Wood Road, before reaching the bridge. Turning to the right is where we can site the rest house for teachers, known as Teacher's Camp. Getting into the entrance will be the road to South Drive.

Since the main goal is to move forward to the next tourist spot, the Baguio Botanical Garden. Having the possession of camera and backpack with me, the determination to cross over the bridge and reach the end-point of my journey, made me keep going.

Specimen for Biology Class

Baguio Botanical Garden was still the best place to study plants, I was referring to biology class. A silly idea to obtain a specimen. I proceed by having a  quick snap shot of the entrance. Then stepping inside, a warm welcome from the tourist guide, not sure if it was been paid by the tourists. I took the chance, walked with them to see the place.

As I roaming around, there is a particular cave that caught my attention. According to the tourist guide, the Japanese soldiers dwelt in that cave. The cave has several compartments, I tried to investigate by myself. Unluckily, I didn't bring any flash lights to go deeply into the cave. So I stepped back and decided to do it some other time.

The weather is starting to get warmer, so I need to fast track my trip. Leaving the area, I saw some tourist taking photos with the local people, wearing a native costumes. Without a second thought, I move back on foot towards Wright Park. Before reaching the park, you can visit Saint Joseph Church and go around the Park Circle.

Yeeha!... on the Wright Park

The park is for aspiring cowboys, riding a horse like a western style. It is worth to experience horseback riding with friends, family or relatives. When I was a kid, my cousins from low lands and I had the idea of role playing in the park. Thinking, we are cowboys looking for Zoro. It sounds corny, a fantasy for kiddos way back then.

After stopping by, I took a deep breath and step up the flight of stairs. At the top of the stairs, you will sight baluarte, souvenir stalls at the right side and walking through the long lane of fish pond. Finally, the full view of the The Mansion.
